Emerald Isle progress 2

So my class ended and the placeholder stuff I threw in was OK, but I still would like to finish this thing. Then again, I want to move onto something new at the same time because I think I could do much better, and there are already things I want to improve upon in this level. Not redoing anything that can be considered as finished, I still have to finish a few of the ruins textures, mostly for the pillars and unique non-tiled bits, and a couple unwraps... then to place more plants and rocks around. Also to find out how to soften the shadow from the giant tree leaves.

I did a little paint over on some of the unfinished textures just to see what it will look a little more complete, although I didn't paint any plants in. ^^; I have yet to make a diffuse for the large tree. At the moment it's just a normal map with a flat color and a moss texture vertex painted in, same with the rocks too but I'm okay with how they are.

Next time I will pick to do something that's a little smaller scale...

Quarter done!

I'm mostly happy with how these came out, but after looking at them now... I wish I had spent a bit more time on the coloring and the layouts. ^^; Anyway, these are my four characters from one of my character design classes... I know I said it in an earlier post, but to reiterate, we had to design a human, elf, orc/creature, and mage character.

Turnarounds and line stuff! I had these in layouts too but I didn't save them as jpgs for this blog, so here's this for the time being.

Emerald Isle environment progress

Here's my progress so far on the environment I'm making! I've changed some things from my concept as I went along though, and still have a lot to do... I'm working on the textures for the different ruins pieces, pillars, some of the plants, and the big tree in the middle. I'm almost out of time though to complete it for my class, so I haven't been able to do as much as I wanted. I didn't really have any idea how long it would take to make an entire level on my own. I've learned a lot from this experience though. :)

Another tree

Still working on the textures and some stuff but here's another tree, which I made for my Emerald Isle environment that I'm working on. I'm beginning to enjoy making trees! I think I'll try a different method next time, maybe Zbrush using a less generic shape. I finally fixed the dark back face issue of the leafy branches by editing the vertex normals.

Sketchbook

Some more recent stuff from my sketch book, which I need to use more often. I need to be less in love with the computer maybe. :P

Plants!

Other stuff!

Moarrr!

A couple more refined ideas, and some not yet done. I still have to finalize all of their names! My human is earnest and goodhearted, but kind of noobish in being a warrior, since he has only been a hunter and fisherman his whole life.

My mage so far, more of a shaman or necromancer. She's not exactly evil, but she is a practitioner of dark magic. She lives inland in the forests and is the one who started the orc attacks because she put a hex on the orc leader, driving him mad.

My orc-dragonkin creature thumbnails. In general, I want the orcs' skins to be varying colors and patterns, and their horns and neck flaps (like iguanas') to vary in size. My depicted orc is supposed to be an older orc, toughened by battles and age. One of his eyes is blinded (or maybe missing.) He is the leader of his tribe and has gone insane!

Elf, human, and extra poses

For my elf female so far... I wanted to keep my elf idea sketches in mind and keep things that would be very reactive to wind. I don't know her name yet... Vayu maybe, like the Hindu god of wind.

My human ideas so far. The faces kinda suck.. I'll blame being sick! He starts out either as a fisherman or a hunter. I'll have to think more about it when I start on the costumes!

Poses... blah.
